Interview with Pascal Edelmann, Head of Press & PR of EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY

EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMYFounded in 1988, the EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY now unites 2,800 European film professionals with the common aim of promoting Europe’s film culture. Every year, the various activities of the EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY culminate in the ceremony of the European Film. In a total of 18 categories, among them European Film, European Director, European Actress, European Actor and – since 2009 – European Animated Feature, the European Film Awards annually honor the greatest achievements in European cinema. The awards ceremony takes place in Berlin every second year (like this year). In the other years, the Awards travel: London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Tallinn and Malta.

EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY can facilitate meetings between people of the European animation?

Yes, that is one of the objectives of the upcoming EFA Master Class.

Why not give an award for best animated short film at the European Film Academy Awards?

The award “European Short Film” can go to any European short film – animation, fiction, documentary or experimental.

Also, why the academy not give awards for animation and for directing scenario?

There is an award for animation, EUROPEAN ANIMATED FEATURE FILM. I don’t understand the last part of the question. There is an award for directing, EUROPEAN DIRECTOR, and one for the scenario, EUROPEAN SCREENWRITER.
