UK, Germany and Belgium stand out at the Cartoon Tributes 2013 nominations

The Broadcaster, Investor/Distributor and Producer of the Year will be announced on 19th September in the city of Toulouse, France.

Winners will be selected by industry professionals at Cartoon Forum 2013, the pitching and co-production forum for European animation.

Fifteen companies from all over Europe will share the spotlight at the upcoming presentation of the Cartoon Tributes, rewarding broadcasters, investor/distributor and producers that have particularly contributed to the development of TV animation. With five and four finalists respectively, France and the UK lead the nominations, followed by Germany and Belgium with two nominees each.

The list of finalists for the three categories also includes companies from Italy and Lithuania. The winners will be selected by 850 animation professionals from 33 countries attending Cartoon Forum 2013, the pitching and co-production event for animated TV series that is taking place from 17-20 September in Toulouse.

Leading networks in the sector like France Télévisions (France) and Super RTL – RTL Disney Fernsehen (Germany) will compete for the title of Broadcaster of the Year against up-and-coming players like OUFtivi, a new multimedia project of Belgium’s public broadcaster RTBF; milkshake!, the pre-school programming block of UK’s Channel 5; and the Lithuanian channel LKN.

In the Investor/Distributor category, the list of finalists includes the distribution arms of well-known channels like UK’s BBC (BBC Worldwide) and Germany’s ZDF (ZDF Enterprises); France’s AB International Distribution; and the book publishers Editions Milan (France) and De Agostini Editori (Italy).

The Producer of the Year’s category features some of the most creative studios in Europe, including France’s 2 Minutes and Ellipsanime Productions, UK’s Spider Eye and Tiger Aspect Productions and Grid Animation from Belgium.

The Award Ceremony will take place on 19th September at 8pm in Toulouse, in the presence of the Mayor of Toulouse, Mr Pierre Cohen, who will also give a Cartoon Tribute Toulouse Métropole to highlight the local animation talent.

The 24th edition of Cartoon Forum will present 68 new animated series projects that will be pitched to investors and broadcasters with the aim of accelerating financing and boosting distribution both within and beyond the European Union.
